June Workshop 2025

On 15th June we hosted the final workshop of the year, delivered by Debbie Harding of Doodle Craft on the subject of Blackwork.

Some of the participants had done Blackwork before, as part of their City and Guilds qualifications, whist others were new to this form of embroidery. We could choose from a range of Aida fabrics, depending on our eyesight and bravery. Our first task was to start a cross-stitch border so we had a reference point before progressing to filling in the frames with Debbie’s blackwork designs.

 

Some folk spent the whole day experimenting with stitch and composition while others tried colour, working on a “Bee”coaster, a kit that was hot off the press. Debbie had only finished stitching the sample the night before.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, although a few said they might need to use a magnifier in future.
