Each year there is at least one challenge on a chosen theme. The main challenge is issued early in the year, to produce an item to be displayed at the annual Christmas Dinner, this is generally known as "Sue's Christmas Challenge". Participation is voluntary as it is designed to be a fun activity and there are no prizes. The 2022 theme was "Wonders of Nature" and the 2023 theme was "Bring on the bling". How members choose to interpret the theme is left to those taking part.

Previous themes have been based around a stitch, recycling or a phrase. You can look through the archive to explore how members have risen to the various challenges prior to 2023 (there is a link above) and pictures of recent items are loaded on to the gallery pages for December (or see archive).

Occasionally an extra Challenge is issued for a particular theme and in November 2023 Vanessa issued a challenge to produce an item reflecting the theme of the Group's forthcoming Exhibition "Borders in Stitch" which will be held in Foulden on the 8th & 9th June 2024.

EXHIBITION CHALLENGE - BORDERS IN STITCH

Members are invited to produce a item to be displayed at the June 2024 exhibition with the theme “Borders in Stitch”. It can be any size, in any textile or stitch medium and how you interpret “borders” is down to you. You may think of borders to be a boundary, a region, a culture, decorative or garden feature.

Taking part is not compulsory; as always our challenges are meant to be fun. But if you do take part we ask is that your entry is completed by the May 2024 meeting to allow for planning the display and delivery/collection.

SUE'S CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE 2024 - INSPIRED BY A FAVOURITE ARTIST.

For this years' challenge Sue thought that creating a textile piece based on work by a favourite artist could be a worthy topic. You could be inspired by colour, theme, subject .....anything really. Your challenge piece could be 2d or sculptural, and could be classical, modernist or contemporary. It's up to you.

Have fun and we look forward to seeing your creations at the December 2024 meeting.
