November Meeting 2024

Our final presentation of the year was jointly given by one of our oldest serving members , Kay Gardiner, and one of our newest recruits Ruth Wadey. They put their heads together at the UFO day in May and agreed to give a collaborative talk on three dimensional embroidery. Kay covered the historical aspects of Stumpwork embroidery and showed us examples of work by contemporary artists, explaining how they have adapted traditional techniques and materials to use in their designs. She also had examples of work that she had adapted from kits, her experiments and pieces that she had created for various challenges over the years. Ruth then talked about her own work. She explained how she goes about designing a piece, how she likes to experiment with different materials and techniques. Ruth kindly produced many samples for the talk so members were able to pick up and handle the samples to see how the various elements of her finished works were made.
