April Meeting 2025
It was almost a full house for Sarah Rakestraw’s very entertaining and informative talk about goldwork embroidery. Sarah started sewing at a young age and founded Golden Hinde Embroidery when she was still studying accountancy. She brought a vast array of samples to show us. Some were sewn by herself, by students or created by her mother, with whom Sarah attended stitich shows, workshops and wrote a book with. We learn’t about traditional goldwork, its history, the materials and how goldwork is continually evolving.
As well as samples of work to look at Sarah also brought along a pop up shop where members were able to stock up on Goldwork specific threads, notions, kits and reading materials in addition to our regular sales table.
Notices of note from Anne were that we have started preparations for the 2027 exhibition and a reminder that a few subscriptions are still due.
