April Workshop 2025

The day following Sarah Rakestraw’s talk she led a one day workshop on goldwork techniques. Participants had a choice of sewing either a plain or twisted trunk on their tree design. Once they had decided which version they would sew Sarah demonstrated her version of the stitch method for transferring designs onto fabric. The techniques learnt were Couching, sewing leather, French knots, applying perl perl, applying chips, smooth purl and spangles.

With some very high-tech equipment members could all see in exact detail what she was doing during her demonstrations and her simple explanations and step by step approach was very much appreciated. She provided an extensive pack of materials for participants to use and experiment with in their own time and her pop up shop of kits, threads, books, wires and notions was also a big hit.
