March Meeting 2025

For the meeting on Saturday, the 8th of March, we learned about another way that textiles can be turned into wearable art through a presentation given by Margaret Woodliff Wright, otherwise known as the Northumberland Milliner. Margaret explained how she became interested in millinery and how she creates her pieces. Margaret's couture millinery is made using found objects, recycled materials, and traditional techniques, along with modern hat-making methods.

In addition to her standard wedding options, and the designs she has created for teaching, Margaret showcased the hats she has created for fashion shows, competitions. She also made the hat worn by the Sheriff of Northumberland at the election count in Blyth in 2024 which became a global internet sensation.

Margaret's talk also featured a number or video's but sadly we could not get the sound on the video's to play though the speaker system. Our apologies it was a technical issue which we will look for a way to solve in future.

After the talk, the members were keen to chat with Margaret and, of course, try on a hat.
