September Meeting 2023

Our Chairwoman Theresa delivered the usual notices for the group and then handed over to Annie Robinson who told us that Berwick Rotary has recognised the efforts of the Northumberland C19 Sewing Group, which includes the members of Border Textile Group pictured below. The Northumberland C19 group was presented with a plaque for sewing scrubs for UK health workers during the pandemic. The Northumberland C19 Sewing Group are now sewing scrubs for health workers in Ukraine.

An excellent presentation was given by our own Zoe van Zwanenberg about the history, design and process of making the St. Cuthbert cope for Durham Cathedral museum. She explained how the various stitchers were involved in the project, the methods used and her participation in stitching a panel for the hem of the cope.

Zoe also had on display some of the Goldwork samples created as preparation for stitching her panel and some of her own exquisite needlework.
