Presenter:
Sheila Mortlock
Year:
2026
At September’s meeting the speaker was Scottish textile artist Sheila Mortlock.
Sheila gave an inspiring talk on her childhood memories of summers in Gairloch and surrounding areas. The landscape has played an important part in her textile art. Observing boundaries between sea, land, rough grazing and agriculture around the crofters.
Sheila studied art at Ducan of Jordanston and taught art at Dundee college. She is a member of the Textile Study Group and exhibits with the group regularly.
Sheila's style focus is in drawing, mark making and colour. Sheila is keen on mono and screen printing on organza, linen and cotton. Her style has a delicate ephemeral look.
